Our extensive network includes 68 plasma collection centers operated by KEDPLASMA in the United States, 8 centers managed by UNICAplasma in the Czech Republic, and 7 production facilities across 5 countries. With a global community of 5,200 people, this infrastructure enables us to distribute 38 life-enhancing and life-saving products in over 100 countries, positioning us as the fifth largest player in the plasma-derived sector worldwide.

We have a single mission: to improve the quality of life for those living with a rare or an ultra-rare disease. Prometic, a Kedrion Biopharma company, has always been committed to finding innovative solutions to best meet the therapeutic needs of patients.
Scientific and technological innovation are part of the DNA of the company, which has a manufacturing plant in Laval, Québec, Canada, with 140 employees.
This is where Prometic has developed a process for purifying plasma proteins that is still unique today. It is a biotechnology platform based on the use of a highly selective chromatographic method capable of obtaining proteins with a high level of purification.
Research and Development team isolated Plasminogen, a protein produced mainly by the liver and found in plasma which plays an essential role in fibrinolysis. This led to the development of a treatment for patients with Congenital Plasminogen Deficiency, an ultra-rare multi-systemic disease. FDA released theapproval for this therapy in June 2021 for US market. The product is not approved in Canada.
The most frequent clinical manifestation of Congenital Plasminogen Deficiency, known as Ligneous Conjunctivitis, consists of the formation of growths on the eyelids. It usually appears during childhood, and in the most serious cases, it can lead to blindness. Plasminogen Deficiency can also affect other membranes of the body, such as the mouth, the eardrums, the respiratory tract, the gastrointestinal tract, the female genitalia and, less commonly, the central nervous system. If left untreated, this disease can lead to a dramatic reduction in quality of life and to a morbidity whose complications are potentially fatal.
In 2021, Kedrion completed the acquisition of Prometic, marking a decisive step in the history of both companies. The union of the two companies is further complementary in that Prometic has concentrated on Research and Development, while Kedrion brings large-scale production and commercialization experience. Today, the Laval site is focused exclusively on production operations, reinforcing Kedrion’s industrial capabilities.
Without a doubt, the most exciting aspect of this agreement is the fact that the new therapy, the result of Prometic’s in-house research and innovation, received FDA approval in June 2021 and that Kedrion has been distributing the drug in the United States since early 2022. This milestone marks a real turning point in the lives of those who live with this rare and debilitating disease.
By becoming part of the Kedrion family, Prometic can rely on the expertise of the entire Kedrion group to create unprecedented synergies, including by making use of new investments. At the same time, through this union, Kedrion has renewed and expanded its commitment in the field of rare and ultra-rare diseases.
